AEG n/a: exhibition in the city centre of Tallinn
This is a site-specific exhibition journey spanning the entire island of Aegna, created as a result of a residency held on the island in May. The perceptions and visions of time, its absence, or even abundance have formed a cohesive whole in the form of site-specific works, by nine international artists. It takes some time to experience.
The artists have moved their studios into the heart of Aegna Island's nature and reinterpreted the meaning of time. The exhibition is constantly evolving and different from the previous day. Time, public space, nature, visitors, and their influence on the works are uncontrollable. The exhibition will remain open until June 26th and can be visited according to the ferry schedule. The artworks will live their lives freely during this time. The uncontrollability is also evident in the curation of the exhibition. We will only find out what emerges from the relationship between the artist and the island at the opening!
The viewer is also not unaffected by time. There are 3 ferries going to Aegna on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and 2 on weekdays. Visitors have five options: return with the same ferry, spend four hours on the island, spend seven hours on the island, eight hours, or stay overnight. For a pleasant experience of the exhibition, we recommend at least seven or eight hours.
Aegna is part of Tallinn's city center, but the green card on the ferry does not apply. There are no cars on Aegna. The public order regulations of the City of Tallinn apply on the island, and since Aegna is a landscape protection area, the maximum permitted noise level at night is equivalent to the loudness of human speech.
Aegna operates on a different time.
